Training
Dog training is key to building a lifetime of joy with your furry friend. Simply put, a trained dog is a safe dog. Obedience training lays the foundation for the best relationship with your dog. Training your dog ensures you have the necessary leadership and tools to overcome obstacles and stop unwanted behavior. Despite what we may want to believe, dogs are not always the cute and cuddly “fur babies” many make them out to be. They are still animals, after all. If they feel threatened, nervous or anxious, dogs will sometimes react and lash out at another dog, a visitor, or even their owner. That is why dog training is so important for ensuring obedience, good behavior, and most important, safety.
Off Leash Program – For Puppies & Dogs 6 months & Older
It is imperative that dogs have routine and structure in their lives. Lack of this structure contributes to stress, anxiety and unwanted behaviors, as it does for people. Environment plays an important role in shaping your dog’s new behavior, something which requires consistency and does not happen overnight. Permanent change is achieved when our trainers have 24 hour access to your dog and are able to train him/her in different environments and controlled scenarios.
This helps to ensure that behavior is properly established instead of just seen as a way to behave when with us. Further, as part of our stay & train program, your dog will be socialized in a controlled environment with other dogs – an especially important aspect for shaping lasting and safe behavior.
Every dog is different and will achieve individual results as upon completion of our program.
As a foundation, the following commands and behaviors can be expected, both on and off leash:
Commands & Activities
Recalls
Sit
Down
Place/Kennel
Heel
Behaviors
Not to jump up
Crate manners
No nipping
Barking to demand food, toys, attention, etc.
Play mouthing/biting (this may lead to serious consequences in the future)
The Stay & Train program includes daily training with one of our experienced trainers, bunkhouse boarding, updates and periodic private training sessions and ‘tune-ups’ with owner(s) and training collar. Stay & Train will include e-collar conditioning and training.
On Leash Stay & Train
Whether you live in a busy area and need your dog to behave calmly on a loose leash for his daily walks or are just sick of the pulling when you take him to the vet, this may be the right program for you.
The highlight of our On Leash Obedience Stay & Train program is teaching your dog to walk calmly on a loose leash in the heel position. No more harnesses, head leads or complicated contraptions for you! Our trainers build the foundation from which you will finally ENJOY taking your dog for a walk.
Build the beginning of basic obedience with on-leash commands of ‘Here,’ ‘Sit,’ ‘Place’ and ‘Down.’ Great for most dogs 6 months and older.
The Leash Obedience program is a Stay & Train program. It includes daily training with one of our experienced trainers, bunkhouse boarding, updates and periodic private training sessions and ‘tune-ups’ with owner(s). Leash Obedience will likely include introduction to a prong collar.
1 session/week
For puppies/dogs 6 months and older
If you’re more of the “Do it Yourself” type and want an active role in training your dog, private lessons with one of our trainers may be for you. The same commands and behaviors we teach during our Stay & Train program can expect to be achieved.
You will attend a private lesson with a trainer once every week for about four weeks. Our trainer will send you and your dog home with “homework” to continue your training between lessons. The work you do with your dog at home will be paramount in reaching your desired goals.
Our trainer will suggest specific training collar(s) and equipment to help you meet your goals. All equipment is the responsibility of the owner. Private lessons at Fireside Pet Lodge will give you and your dog lifetime access to Fireside group obedience classes.
$10-$20/class
